• Conduct a regional nutrition situation study to monitor the WHO Global targets

Responsible: Dr. Tirang Neyestani

Description: WHO is currently reviewing and updating the nutrition situation in the region to monitor the global target for malnutrition. To assist WHO doing this, the NNFTRI will conduct a regional nutrition situation analysis. The NNFTRI will develop a questionnaire and submit it to WHO for approval. Once approved, the institution will translate it into Arabic, English and French, and other local languages such as Farsi. WHO will facilitate the communications with the Member States to distribute and administer the questionnaire. Once the responses are received, the NNFTRI will analyze the data and produce a report to be submitted to WHO.

  •  Conduct a cost-effectiveness regional study on nutrition interventions and their impact

Responsible: Dr. Nasrin Omidvar

Description: This activity was carried out at the national level as “A study program analysis, effectiveness and cost analysis of the multidisciplinary interventional program for improvement of nutritional status of children in Iran” which its report will publish as soon. It would be possible to do the systematic review of these data if we could access the necessary data for regional countries. NNFTRI will also produce a comprehensive report to be submitted to WHO with the results of the systematic review focusing in particular on certain countries in the region to be decided by WHO

  • Conduct a study on food consumption patterns

Responsible: Dr. Morteza Abdollahi

Description: WHO is monitoring the NCD diet-related risk factors in the Region. This institute is ready to perform this study. It is proposed the first step done at national level and will be carried out for some countries

in the region. To assist WHO with this task, the NNFTRI will conduct a regional study in countries to be decided by WHO, to assess salt, TFA, SFA, and sugar intake. We will prepare the questionnaires, hold the training courses to design methodology and questionnaires, and do data analysis and interpretation for those regional countries which are ready to do. The NNFTRI will produce a comprehensive report with the results of the study and submit it to WHO.

  •  To develop a protocol for a survey on diet and nutrition and its relation with NCDs in Iran

Responsible: Dr. Tirang Neyestani

This protocol will help generate the needed data that would help policymakers develop evidence-informed policies and implement public health interventions that would reduce the risk of nutrition-related disease, especially NCDs, contribute to the work of food standards and specifications and develop quantitative food-based dietary guidelines.

  • Analysis of fiscal policies on the healthy diet aimed at reducing dietary risk factors for NCDs in the Islamic Republic of Iran

Responsible: Dr. Fatemeh Mohammadi Nasrabadi

The main objective of this project is to help the Islamic Republic of Iran to review the current fiscal policies including regulatory measures, subsidy and San taxes and create enabling the environment to promote the healthy diet in the country towards reducing dietary risk factors for NCDs.
